Origins
Legend of the
Horseshoe
According to legend, on a warm day in the late 1800s, a metal shimmer caught the eye of distiller Aurelio López Rosales in a Jalisco agave field. Aurelio hurried to the object, thinking it was gold, but discovered it was a horseshoe, which he interpreted as a sign of good fortune to come.
Today, this horseshoe is the symbol of the most finely made tequilas in the world. Adorning every bottle of Herradura, the lucky horseshoe represents good fortune and extraordinary flavors.

THE evolution OF
CASA HERRADURA
legacy of
discovery
deep roots,
modern
innovation
While Tequila Herradura received its modern name (meaning ‘horseshoe’ in Spanish) in 1928, the distillery’s true legacy began nearly 100 years before when residents on the property began making tequila from the region’s native agave plants. Officially established in 1870 in Amatitán, Jalisco, the brithplace of tequila, much of Casa Herradura’s heritage is still a living part of tequila production today.
Over 150 years, Casa Herradura withstood the Mexican Revolution, Cristeros Revolution, land reforms, and changing hands––all the while continuously crafting ultra-premium, 100% Blue Weber Agave tequilas. This tenacious, trailblazing spirit still flourishes in every aspect of the creative journey today.

Tequila Craft
A living history
Since the beginning, Herradura has produced tequila from plant-to-bottle at the world-renowned Casa Herradura estate in Amatitán, Jalisco. While some methods evolve, you can still witness the art of traditional tequila craft everyday at Casa Herradura.
Industry-leading equipment has replaced the traditional donkey-pulled tahona wheel that was historically used to press toasted piñas, yet jimadors still harvest heritage agave by hand. Additionally, piñas are still slow-cooked in clay ovens, preserving another traditional element of the process. The citrus trees surrounding the distillery are maintained to naturally foster yeast growth for fermentation. Now clarified through reverse osmosis filters, even the water springs from the original wells erected by the López family.
Balancing 150-years of tequila making tradition with innovation means these incredible tequilas boast modern refinement and flavor, while still reserving their authentic taste and spirit.
